Before February 24, 2019, the Murdaugh family was widely regarded as one of the state’s most prominent dynasties. After Mallory Beach was killed in a tragic boating accident that also involved the family’s youngest son, Paul Murdaugh, the family’s outward appearance of happiness began to unravel.
Around a year after Paul and Maggie’s murders on July 14, 2022, Alex was indicted for their deaths. The patriarch of the Murdaugh family has been charged with two charges of murder and two counts of possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent felony.
Alex Murdaugh, Buster’s dad and a former attorney has been charged with the deaths of his wife Maggie and their younger son Paul. On June 7, 2021, at around 10 p.m., Alex called 911 to report that he had just shot three people.
Authorities claimed Alex murdered his family in an attempt to avoid culpability for the more than a hundred financial offenses, such as fraud money laundering, tax evasion and forgeries with which he has been charged. There was also a mysterious death that some believed Buster was responsible for although the case was never resolved.
Where is Buster Murdaugh Now?
Buster and his lawyer lover Brooklynn White currently living in their home on Hilton Head Island in South Carolina. As of yet, his line of work is unknown. In February of this year, he was the first defense witness on his father’s side of the case, testifying that Alex was “heartbroken” over the deaths of Maggie and Paul.
In response to a query from Alex’s attorney Jim Griffin, Buster stated that the family always resolved conflicts amicably, “like grownups” and never resorted to physical violence. At the time, Buster was a law student at the University of South Carolina.
He was expelled from law school due to a plagiarism scandal. After his family paid a well-connected Columbia lawyer, Butch Bowers about $60,000 to help secure Buster’s readmittance, he was allowed back into the country.
On the other hand, he has not returned to law school. Buster and his fiancee, Brooklynn White currently reside in a condo on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina because he is unwilling to return to the hunting lodge where his brother and mother were murdered.

What did Buster Murdaugh say About his Father?
On February 21, 2023, Buster testified at his father’s trial. On the trial, he said that he regularly checked in with his elderly mother and often spoke with his parents and brother via phone. His father even contacted him on the night of the murders to let him know he was on his way to see his ailing wife.
The prosecution claims that he made the call after his wife and son had been killed in an attempt to create a false alibi for themselves. Buster mentioned that his father had contacted him twice to break the news of the deaths. He reflected, “I just sat there for a minute.”
He spent the majority of the next few weeks under his father’s watchful eye. After the murders, they went to visit various relatives including Maggie’s parents. After the murders, the family released a joint statement in which they offered $100,000 for information leading to the perpetrators’ arrest.
