A Look at the Professional Life of Ryan Pemberton
During the decade Pemberton spent with JR Motorsports, the organization won the driver’s title three times: first with Chase Elliott in 2014 and then two consecutive years with Tyler Reddick in 2018-19. Ryan Pemberton began his career in NASCAR with Jack Roush in 1988, while Robin Pemberton was Mark Martin’s crew chief.
Ryan is the younger brother of the former vice president of the NASCAR competition. As a crew chief in 561 NASCAR Cup Series starts later, Ryan shared victories with Brian Vickers in 2009 and Joe Nemechek in 2004. Ryan collaborated with Derrike Cope, Ernie Irvan, Jerry Nadeau and Dave Blaney as additional drivers.
As a crew chief for the NASCAR Xfinity Series, Ryan led Larry Pearson and Regan Smith to three wins in 76 appearances. The Pemberton family has experienced terrible times over the past four years.
The son of Robin and Ryan’s nephew, Bray Pemberton, passed away in 2021. The brother of Ryan and Robin, Randy Pemberton, passed away in 2022. Pemberton has some expertise in the NASCAR racing industry. He was Larry Pearson’s crew chief back in 1995, helping him to two victories.
His main responsibility as competition director was to serve as a liaison between the crew chiefs of JR Motorsports. He also collaborated closely with important members of the shop staff.
