Remembering the Life of William Allen Baker
The son of William Allen and Mary Powers Baker, Bill was born in Saint Louis, Missouri, on September 29, 1932. He dedicated his life to spreading kindness on a regular basis, passionately supporting charities spanning from New York to the Lowcountry of South Carolina.
Accomplished with degrees from Georgetown University, Harvard Business School and the Medical University of South Carolina, Bill gained recognition and admiration for his academic achievements while serving as the chair of the board of The Baker Companies, a Pleasantville, New York-based real estate development and investment firm.
What’s even more remarkable are his charitable and community involvements. He was a founder member of the Stellaris Health Network, vice-chair of the Northern Westchester Hospital Center, vice-chair of the Medical University of South Carolina Foundation and a governor-appointed trustee of the university.
Bill’s alma mater, Georgetown University, where he chaired the medical center affairs committee and served on the board of trustees and regents, awarded him the John Carroll Award. In addition, he was a trustee of Marymount College in Tarrytown, New York, where he sat on the finance committee.
He was also a longtime member of Holy Spirit Church in Johns Island, South Carolina and the president of the parish council for St. John and St. Mary’s in Chappaqua, New York. His life serves as an example of the inherent values of diligence and kindness.
