James and Angela Milligan welcomed Drake into the world on June 1st, 1998 in Arlington, Texas. He was inspired by the country music his father liked, especially Merle Haggard and by an Elvis mimic he saw singing at a nearby restaurant.
Following his own local performances as an Elvis impersonator, Milligan responded to a CMT casting call for the role of Elvis Presley in their television series Sun Records. In the end, he got the job which meant that during his final year of high school, he had to relocate from Texas to Nashville, Tennessee.
At once he said that despite competing on American Idol in 2018, Milligan ultimately withdrew. I made the decision that I wasn’t quite ready for that platform yet and that moving to Nashville and putting my music first would be a better course for me.
Milligan also attended a Nashville audition for a recording deal with BBR Music Group. The label initially turned him down but six months later signed him. His self-titled debut extended play which Tony Brown helped to produce was released in July 2021.
