Elise Finch, a meteorologist who worked for CBS New York for 16 years has died at the age of 51. She passed away on Sunday, June 16 night and the news station is in grief.
The station reported that no cause of death had been revealed when she passed away at a nearby hospital. The broadcaster stated in a news:
“It is with profound sadness that we share news of the passing of our beloved Elise Dione Finch Henriques, Elise has been a friend and team member at WCBS for 16 years. She first joined the team in 2007 as our weekend meteorologist and was most recently on the morning news with Mary Calvi and Chris Wragge.”
Elise was an exceptional professional, a model citizen and a magnificent representative of Mount Vernon, New York where she was born and raised. She graduated from Georgetown University with a Bachelor of Science degree and one of the esteemed President’s Awards.
After working at NBC as a meteorologist for the “Early Today Show” MSNBC and NBC Weather Plus, she joined the CBS New York weather team in April 2007. In recent years, Finch co-hosted the morning news with other anchors like Chris Wragge and Mary Calvi.
She began hosting the network’s morning newscast with Cindy Hsu in September 2022. Finch had emceed events for the JDRF Walk for a Cure, the Westchester Library System, the Mount Vernon High School Hall of Fame and the Alzheimer’s Association of Greater New Jersey.
She belongs to both the American Meteorological Society and the National Association of Black Journalists. Finch had a daughter Grace with her husband Graig Henriques, a photojournalist for WCBS.
After her death, people are sharing their condolences towards the meteorologist on social media and her colleagues and journalists including Jessica Moore of WBCS paid tribute in a heartfelt and personal way.
Moore wrote in a tweet, “Elise was fiercely loyal to those she loved, a straight shooter, a consummate professional, and made me laugh until I cried.”
