The Unsettling Fallout of Maycee’s DMs to Paige’s Spouse
Maycee Barber, a standout at UFC Jacksonville, angered her fellow flyweight Paige VanZant by texting her spouse. With an undefeated professional record of 8-0 at the time of the conflict, Barber was eager to provoke promotional star VanZant into a high-stakes fight.
The husband’s private communication to VanZant had the opposite effect, as the blonde bombshell declined a fight offer and eventually quit the promotion for good.
With four straight wins under her belt and her upcoming matchup against Amanda Ribas at UFC Jacksonville on June 24, Barber has established herself as one of the UFC’s top female prospects.
Maycee Barber’s plan to get into the DMs of Paige VanZant’s husband, Austin Vanderford, backfired. In an interview with Ariel Helwani from early this year, VanZant said she was planning to accept the battle against Barber before she chose to text her husband instead.
She said:
“Being a disrespectful person shouldn’t be valued, and I definitely won’t give her the time of day. I’m not going to take the bait, and that’s why I’ve stayed quiet the entire time. Actually, I was going to say yes to the fight, but I think it’s completely inappropriate to slide into someone’s husband’s DMs trying to get a fight. Messaging my husband on Instagram is trying to agitate me.”

In order to get another shot at flyweight champion Alexa Grasso, #11-ranked Barber (12-2) needs to beat #9-ranked Ribas.
