The Outsiders is an adaption of S.E. Hinton’s 1967 novel of the same name. The show premiered in 1983. The cast of the show, which also includes C. Thomas Howell, Rob Lowe, Emilio Estevez, Matt Dillon, Tom Cruise, Patrick Swayze, Ralph Macchio, and Diane Lane, is renowned for its talent. The production of this movie cost $10 million, and it has brought in $33.7 million, despite the fact that moviegoers generally like it.

Ponyboy, A Fourteen-Year-Old Member of The Greasers

Ponyboy’s second oldest brother is Sodapop Curtis, 16 years played by Rob Lowe. Ponyboy explains him as “always happy-go-lucky and grinning.” Soda is decking, charming and handsome having a “finely drawn, sensitive face that somehow manages to be reckless and thoughtful at the same time.”
He works at a gas station. Soda is the mediator between his two brothers, brave, kind, and gentle. He loved Sandy, and wants to marry her, who is a member of the Greasers.
Darry, Ponyboy’s Oldest Brother
Darrel “Darry” Shaynne Curtis Jr. is Ponyboy’s oldest brother who is 20 years old and played by the late Patrick Swayze. He was a roofer, Ponyboy explains to him as “hard and firm and rarely grins at all. He has “grown up too fast.” He was the former caption of the football team in his high school.
Darry’s full name is Darrel Curtis, and he raised his two brothers. He has dark hair, brown eyes, and an intimidating physique. He is a good chocolate cake maker. Other greasers call him “Superman.”
Two-Bit Mathews, The Oldest Member of The Greaser Gang
The real name of Two Bit is Keith ported by Emilio Estevez, but he is popular as Two-Bit Mathews “You couldn’t shut that guy up; he always had to get his two-bits worth in.” The oldest member of the Greaser gang and “the wisecracker of the bunch.” He loved Marcia, Soc’s girlfriend. Ponyboy describes him:
“He was about six feet tall, stocky in build, and very proud of his long rusty-colored sideburns. He had gray eyes and a wide grin, and he couldn’t stop making funny remarks to save his life… He liked fights, blondes, and for some unfathomable reason, school.”
Dally, The Toughest Member of The Greaser Gang
Dally, is the toughest member of the Greaser gang, whose real name is Dallas Winston played by Matt Dillon. According to Ponyboy, he has an elfish face, with high cheekbones and a pointed chin, small, sharp animal teeth, and ears like a lynx.
His hair was almost white it was so blond, and he didn’t like haircuts, or hair oil either, so it fell over his forehead in wisps and kicked out in the back in tufts and curled behind his ears and along the nape of his neck. His eyes were blue, blazing ice, cold with a hatred of the whole world. He is seventeen years old “The fight for self-preservation had hardened him beyond caring.”
Johnny, The Second Youngest Member of The Group
The second youngest member of the group is Johnny Cade played by Ralph Macchio. He is smaller than the rest, with a slight build. He had big black eyes in a dark-tanned face; his hair was jet-black and heavily greased and combed to the side, but it was so long that it fell in shaggy bangs across his forehead.
He had a nervous, suspicious look in his eyes… He was the gang’s pet, everyone’s kid brother.

Sandy, Sodapop’s Girlfriend
Sandy was played by Lynne Hatheway. Sandy is in a relationship with Soda, but she is pregnant with someone else. Sandy went to Florida to join her grandmother. She is good looking having her hair naturally blond and her laugh soft, like her china-blue eyes. She didn’t have a real good home or anything and was our kind-greaser-but she was a real nice girl.
Steve Randle, Soda’s Best Friend
Steve Randle played by Tom Cruise, is the best of friend Soda, who does not like Ponyboy. He is seventeen years tall and smart. He has light brown hair and dark eyes. Ponyboy annoyed him because he always become to reason when the decisions were made.
Jerry Wood, School Teacher
Jerry played by Gailard Sartain, is the school teacher who joins the children on a picnic when the church gets burned. He was in the hospital with Ponyboy because Ponyboy was injured while rescuing children from fire. He is an adult but open-minded.
Tim Shepard, Leader of the Other Greaser Gang
Tim is the leader of another Greaser gang played by Glenn Withrow. He looks like a lean, catlike eighteen-year-old, the model JD you see in movies and magazines. He had the right curly black hair, smoldering dark eyes, and a long scar from temple to chin where a tramp had belted him with a broken pop bottle.
He had a tough, hard look to him and his nose had been broken twice. He is a respected friend of Dally, loyal and brave.
