She was born Judith Ann Bufe and spent 48 years wed to Major League Baseball player Mike Shannon. The St. Louis Dispatch quotes an unnamed “close family friend” of the Bollings as saying that Judy and Mike met and fell in love while attending high school in St. Louis.
When Judy pἀssed away, the couple left behind six children, 14 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. St. Louis Public Radio reported that Judy pἀssed away suddenly in July 2007 at the age of 66. It had been roughly a year since she was diagnosed with brain cancer.
In a statement, St. Louis Cardinals manager Tony La Russa was quoted as saying, “The loss is as serious and sad as anything I can imagine.”
Cardinals chairman Bill DeWitt Jr. expressed the feelings of the entire organization and its fans by saying, “On behalf of the entire Cardinals organization and its fans, we would like to offer our thoughts and prayers to the Shannon family on the loss of a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Judy Shannon.”
