Elissa Slotkin, a Democrat from Michigan’s 11th congressional district, announced her divorce from spouse Dave Moore in a message to the Free Press on Saturday.
“After careful consideration, we are saddened to announce that we are divorcing after 12 years of marriage,” Slotkin and Moore said in a joint statement. “We’ve reached this decision together after much reflection and we do it on agreeable terms.”
“We appreciate everyone’s respect for our privacy on this matter during this time,” they said.
Moore and Slotkin tied the knot in 2011 after meeting in Iraq in 2009. Slotkin is a former U.S. intelligence officer. Moore, a retired Army colonel and former Apache helicopter pilot who also specialized in counterterrorism planning, was part of a United States team negotiating with the Iraqis; she was on her third tour of duty in Iraq as a Pentagon adviser.
The property near Holly where Slotkin’s bride grew up served as the setting for their wedding. When Slotkin ran for the House of Representatives in 2018, he defeated the incumbent, Republican Mike Bishop of Rochester, New York, despite the district’s Republican leanings.
