Know About Timothy Scott’s Early Life
Timothy is the second son of his parents France and Ben Scott Sr. born on September 19, 1965, in North Charleston, South Carolina. His parents separated when he was seven years old. His mother raised him with an overtime job. He had a big brother who was appointed as a sergeant major in the U.S. Army.
He completed his graduation from R.B. Stall High School and then entered in 1983, Presbyterian college. He completed his political science degree with the help of a football scholarship from Charleston Southern University. After completing his study she became an insurance agent and financial adviser.
Beginning of Political Career
Scott joined the Republican party in 1995 and was elected in place of Keith Summey who vacated his seat after being elected as mayor of North Charleston. He created history as the first black American elected to any field in South Carolina. In the 1946 election, he was defeated by Robert Ford. But again won in 2000 against Democrat Elliot Summey, Keith Summey’s son.
Elected as South Carolina House of Representatives
In 2008, Tom Dantzler, Republican State Representative, decided to retire. Scott ran for this seat with the advice of Nicolas Muzin and won. For this seat, he defeated Bill Crosby and Wheeler Tillman.
U.S. House of Representatives (2011-2013)
When Henry Brown retired from lieutenant governor Timothy decided to run for it. In the line, Scott was at first point out of nine candidates with 32% vote and Thurmond was at second with 16%.
One more race was held between Scott and Thurmond. Scott was endorsed by the Club for Growth, various Tea Party movement groups, former Alaska governor and vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin, Republican House Whip Eric Cantor, former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee, and South Carolina senator and Minuteman Project founder Jim DeMint. With so much support he defeated Thurmond by a long distance of 68%-32%.
Scott “swamped his opponents in fundraising, spending almost $725,000 during the election cycle to less than $20,000 for his November opponents”.
Then he defeated Den Frasier Democratic candidate, in the general election. In 2012, again he won against Bobbie Rose Democratic nominee.
U.S.Senate
In 2012, Jim DeMent retired to become the president of The Heritage Foundation. To replace Nikki Haley, the South Caroline governor selected Timothy. He is the first African American elected as U.S. Senator. According to resources, Scott, Representative Trey Gowdy, former South Carolina Attorney General Henry McMaster, former First Lady of South Carolina Jenny Sanford, and South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control Director Catherine Templeton were selected to replace DeMint by Nikki.

Of choosing Scott, Haley said, “It is important to me, as a minority female, that Congressman Scott earned this seat, he earned this seat for the person that he is. He earned this seat with the results he has shown.”
In 2019, Scott said, “I plan to run for reelection, but that will be my last one if I run.” He was elected again in 2022, defeating Democratic nominee Krystle Matthews.

In 2017, Scott reacted “Racism is real. It is alive”. He commented on Trump’s statement “good people.” Scott said Trump now, “rejected hatred, bigotry, and racism” in his “strong” statement on Monday, on Tuesday, “started erasing the comments that were strong. What we want to see from our president are clarity and moral authority. And that moral authority is compromised when Tuesday happens. There’s no question about that […] I’m not going to defend the indefensible.”

Trump met Scott on Wednesday and then Scott commented that Trump, “was very receptive to listening. That is a key to understanding”, and that he had “obviously reflected on what he’s said, on his intentions and the perceptions of those comments” which were “not exactly what he intended”.
When Trump asked to delete his statement on Twitter, about the murder of George Floyd, Scott said, “Those are not constructive tweets, without any question. I’m thankful that we can have the conversation. … We talked about the fact that there is a constructive way to have a dialogue with a nation in this similar fashion that we had a conversation after Charlottesville, the President will listen if you engage him with the facts of the issue”.
