A man from Westwood was given a prison sentence of more than 17 years today for giving the fentanyl-laced pills that killed rapper Mac Miller four years ago. The U.S. Attorney’s Office says that Stephen Walter was given a sentence of 210 months in federal prison. Walter, who was 49 at the time, pleaded guilty to a federal count of selling fentanyl last year.
Miller Mac died of a drug overdose in September 2018. The drugs that killed him were fentanyl, cocaine, and alcohol. Walter gave the 26-year-old rapper the fentanyl that killed him just a few days before he died.
MillerMac came onto the hip-hop scene in 2007 when his first studio album, Blue Slide Park, topped the US Billboard 200. It was the first album released by an independent label to do so since 1995.
When Did Mac Miller Die?
Mac Miller, whose real name was Malcolm James McCormick, died on September 7, 2018, from an overdose of oxycodone mixed with fentanyl. He was found dead in his home in the San Fernando Valley in California. At first, it was thought that he had accidentally overdosed on a mix of fentanyl, alcohol, and cocaine.
MillerMac was known to have had problems with drugs over the years, but he was reportedly on the way to getting better before he relapsed.

Ryan Reavis, age 39, got 10 years and 11 months in prison after pleading guilty in September 2018 to giving Miller oxycodone mixed with fentanyl. The US Attorney’s Office says that Reavis knew the pills were laced with fentanyl when he gave them to Cameron Jame Pettit, 30, who sold drugs for Miller. Documents filed in federal court in Los Angeles say that Walter told Reavis to give the drugs to Pettit.
Then, on September 5, 2018, two days before Miller died, Pettit reportedly sold the pills to him. Three people have been charged with Miller’s death, but Reavis is the only one who has been sentenced so far. Stephen Walter, who is 49 years old, pleaded guilty to the distribution charge against him and is now waiting for his sentence. Pettit’s case is still going on.
How Did Artists Respond To Mac Miller’s Death?
Fans, friends, and even his ex-girlfriend Ariana Grande were devastated by his death. Grande wrote a heartbreaking tribute to Miller in which she said, “I can’t believe you’re gone. I can’t make sense of it at all.
“I’m so angry and so upset that I don’t know what to do… I’m so sorry I couldn’t make things better or take away your pain. I wanted to do it so much.”
Post Malone, a rapper and singer, said at the time, “God f****** dammit. You were a really great person. You influenced so many people. “Your heart was full of love. Throughout high school, you were an inspiration to me, and I wouldn’t be where I am today without you. “I’ve never met anyone who was more kind, honest, and beautiful. I f****** love you mac.”
Later, Miller’s family buried him in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where they grew up. They also started the Mac Miller Circles Fund, a charity that helps young musicians “explore, express themselves, and be part of a community” to reach their full potential. The charity said in July 2021 that they would give 75 microgrants to Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) to help them with their work.
