What exactly is Blue Lock?
Blue Lock is a Japanese manga series written and drawn by Muneyuki Kaneshiro that has been published in Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen Magazine since August 2018.
After the Japanese national soccer team is eliminated in the 2018 World Cup quarterfinals, the Japan Football Union hires a mystery guy dubbed Ego Jinpachi to enhance Japan’s World Cup performance.
His goal is to attract 300 U-18 forwards to the newly established Blue Lock facility and prepare them to become the world’s top strikers through a hard and grueling training routine.
However, only one forward will gain the opportunity to become Japan’s next national striker—the other 299 will never be able to represent the country. Yoichi Isagi was one of the chosen 300, having just suffered a sad loss at the National High School Football Qualifiers after passing to a teammate rather than taking a shot himself.
The series follows Yoichi Isagi and the other strikers as they vie to develop their egos and become the world’s top forward.
