Moana is an American 3D computer-animated film directed by John Musker and Ron Clements and co-directed by Chris Williams and Don Hall.
Walt Disney Animation Studios picked the film for production and Jared Bush served as the writer of the screenplay along with Musker, Clements, Williams, and Hall.
It revolves around Moana who is the dynamic and strong daughter of a Polynesian village’s chief, who is selected by the ocean itself to get together a concealed relic with the goddess Te Fiti.
When her island was struck by blight, Moana embarks on to look for Maui who is a legendary demigod with the expectation of returning the relic to Te Fiti and rescuing her people. Though the storyline of the film is original, it has been inspired by Polynesian myths.
On November 23, 2016, Moana was released in theatres and received mostly positive reviews from critics as well as audiences. It has an IMDB rating of 7.6 out of 10 and 95% on Rotten Tomatoes. After the success of the film, fans have been expecting a sequel, and here’s what we know about it so far.
Moana 2 Release Date: Is Sequel Confirmed?
There is no doubt that the film was a commercial as well as critical success and earned more than $645 million across the world against a budget of $150 to $175 million.
During the Walt Disney Company’s Investor Day 2020 event, a series based on the film was confirmed along with many other anime series and was stated to kick off sometime in 2023, however, later it was delayed to 2024.

As of now, a sequel of Moana isn’t confirmed so we cannot expect a release date anytime soon. We will update this section as soon as there is an official announcement about it.

We can expect all the voice cast to return for a sequel if it gets confirmed, here are the names:

Moana 2 Expected Storyline
At the end of the Moana, we saw Maui thanking Moana for assisting him and even getting a new tattoo: one of the ferocious young women he has come to know.
Moana gets back home and finds out it has been restored. Her family is delighted to see her back and the fleet of ships is released so that her people can be explorers yet again.
The storyline for the sequel of the film hasn’t been known yet but we will update you as soon as it is revealed.
