Laurie M. McHugh, born on May 15, 1965, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, passed away on August 21, 2023, at the age of 58. She grew up in a loving family, the daughter of Dolores (Maguire) and Raymond McHugh, Jr.
Laurie Mchugh Career and Contributions
Laurie was a notable member of her community in New Hope, Pennsylvania. She held the position of Vice President of the New Hope Borough Council, a role she had been dedicated to since January 2016, following her election in November 2015.
Her commitment to public service was evident through her work on the council. In addition to her political career, Laurie was a co-founder of the Union Chill Cannabis Company in the City of Lambertville.
Her entrepreneurial spirit was also demonstrated through her involvement in the Bucks County Dragon Boat Association. She played a key role in operating a company that organized dragon boat events for corporate team building, showcasing her diverse interests and capabilities.
How Did Laurie Mchugh Die?
Laurie McHugh tragically passed away in a car accident on August 21, 2023. The accident occurred on Durham Road (Route 413) near Upper Mountain Road in Buckingham Township.
The collision caused significant front-end damage to McHugh’s vehicle and moderate damage to the tractor-trailer. Both McHugh and the truck driver were taken to St. Mary Medical Center. Unfortunately, Laurie McHugh succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.

Laurie Mchugh Family and Legacy
Laurie’s family includes her parents, siblings Raymond McHugh III (Jen), Virginia Smith (Patrick), and Daniel McHugh (Maureen), along with her cousin Mack Maguire and adoptive daughter Aya. She also has six nieces and nephews. Laurie was devoted to her family, community, and different business projects throughout her life.

The community of New Hope and beyond mourns the loss of Laurie McHugh. Her contributions as a council member, a business leader, and a passionate community member have left a lasting impact.

“Our esteemed CEO and co-founder, Laurie McHugh, passed suddenly and tragically yesterday. The entire Union Chill family is filled with sorrow as we come to terms with this unexpected loss. Laurie’s departure leaves a profound void in our heart.”
Michael McQueeny, who works at Foley Hoag LLP, the law firm that represented McHugh, shared a post on his LinkedIn and wrote,
“While I could praise Laurie endlessly for her talents as an executive, including launching Union Chill as one of the very first ad*lt-use only licenses here in the State of New Jersey, Laurie was an even more wonderful person. She was a tireless advocate, public servant, hard working entrepreneur, and most importantly a friend.”
