Why is John Jay O’Connor Famous?
John Jay O’Connor III was an American lawyer. On January 10, 1930, O’Connor was born in San Francisco, California. John Jay O’Connor II and Sally Flynn O’Connor were his parents. He attended San Francisco’s St. Ignatius High School and was of Irish Catholic origin.
He graduated from Stanford University with a bachelor’s degree in 1951 and in 1953 he earned a law degree from the same institution. After graduating from law school, O’Connor served in the Judge Advocate General’s Corps of the United States Army.
From 1954 until 1956, he was stationed in Frankfurt, West Germany. Mrs. O’Connor worked as a civilian lawyer for the Quartermaster Corps. After his return to the US, O’Connor settled in Phoenix, Arizona. He then became a member of the Fennemore, Craig, von Ammon, McClennen & Udall legal practice.
After President Ronald Reagan nominated Sandra Day O’Connor to the United States Supreme Court, O’Connor and his family relocated to Washington, D.C. While residing in Washington, he continued to practice law with two firms: Bryan Cave and Miller & Chevalier.
Nearly twenty years before to his passing, O’Connor received an Alzheimer’s diagnosis. At the age of 79, O’Connor passed away in Phoenix, Arizona, on November 11, 2009, from Alzheimer’s disease.
Who is Sandra Day O’Connor’s Parents?
Sandra Day, the daughter of rancher Harry Alfred Day and Ada Mae was born in El Paso, Texas. She was raised close to Duncan, Arizona, on a 198,000-acre family cattle ranch. The closest paved road was nine miles away from the ranch.
Running water and electricity were not available in the family’s home until Sandra was seven years old. She used to shoot jackrabbits and coyotes with a.22-caliber rifle that she had as a child. She had to learn how to repair a flat tire on her own and started driving as soon as she could look over the dashboard.
Sandra had a brother and a sister who were eight and 10 years younger than her, respectively. Ann Day, her sister, was a legislator for Arizona.
