Cassie Ventura was born in New London, Connecticut. She started making music when she met record producer Ryan Leslie in late 2004. When Ventura released her first song, “Me & U” two years later, rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs heard it and offered to work with Combs’ Bad Boy Records to get Ventura’s first album out to the public.
It reached number three on the Billboard Hot 100 in July 2006 and was her first song to make the list. “Me & U” was the first song from Ventura’s self-titled debut studio album, which came out in August 2006 and peaked at number four on the Billboard 200.
