On Thursday, 26, 2023, prosecutors in Manhattan decided to cancel all charges against a woman who had accused movie star Jonathan Majors of assault. This happened less than a day after she was arrested, following his claim that she started the physical altercation.
On Wednesday, 25, 2023, the NYPD briefly arrested Grace Jabbari and charged her with misdemeanor assault and criminal mischief. She and her ex-boyfriend, Majors, accused each other of hurting the other during an argument in a car earlier this year. Jabbari was later given a court summons and released.

By the morning, the situation with Jabbari was resolved. A spokesperson for DA Alvin Bragg stated:
“The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office has officially declined to prosecute the case against Grace Jabbari because it lacks prosecutorial merit. The matter is now closed and sealed.”

Majors, a quickly becoming famous Hollywood star, is still dealing with criminal charges that resulted in his arrest last March. The actor is accused of grabbing Jabbari’s finger, twisting her arm, hitting and cutting her ear, and pushing her into a vehicle. This left her with a broken finger and bruises.
Lawyers representing Majors argue that Jabbari started the fight. It all began when Jabbari saw a text on Majors phone that said, “Wish I was kissing you right now.” She tried to grab the phone to find out who sent the message. Jabbari got arrested three months later following a police investigation triggered by a complaint filed by Majors.
In a document submitted to the court a few weeks ago, the Manhattan DA’s office said they “would decline to prosecute any charges brought by the NYPD against Ms. Jabbari related to the belated allegations” made by Majors. They told the police about this decision two times.
Ross Kramer, who is a lawyer for Jabbari, said it’s miserable and makes things worse for Jabbari that the NYPD decided to charge her. The Manhattan District Attorney’s office had “carefully reviewed all the facts of the case and concluded that Ms. Jabbari was the victim, and not the perpetrator,” the statement added.
Majors’ lawyer, Priya Chaudhry, didn’t want to say anything. Before, she mentioned that she gave the district attorney in Manhattan strong proof that the woman who accused Majors is not telling the truth. She even has videos showing that nothing happened, especially not where the woman said it did.
However, in a memo dated October 13th, the prosecutors mentioned some worrying differences in the evidence given by Chaudhry. They mentioned an instance where a person who was quoted as saying Majors “gently” put Jabbari in the car after she slapped him and told the prosecutors that he never wrote that statement and thought it was untrue.

The memo also talks about how NYPD detectives and Majors’ lawyer worked together. For instance, the picture on a wanted poster for Jabbari was given by the defense to the NYPD.
Majors became really famous in Hollywood recently, getting big roles in movies like “Creed III” and “Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania” after making a breakthrough in 2019 with “The Last Black Man in San Francisco.”
After Majors got arrested, the U.S. Army stopped airing TV commercials with Majors narrating because they were apprehensive about the accusations. Disney also delayed Majors’ new Marvel movie “Avengers: Kang Dynasty,” and it’s uncertain when his recent Sundance Film Festival movie “Magazine Dreams” will come out. His trial is scheduled to start on November 29th.
