The Fisher family has spent the last 12 years hoping against hope for a cure for Ethan Fisher’s FA, one that may now be on the horizon. Ethan Fisher was diagnosed with FA in 2011 when he was 6 years old.
To combat the illness, the Fishers established the Kidz1stFund. It has raised around $12 million for the Fanconi Anemia Comprehensive Care Program at the University of Minnesota. The Minnesota clinic is where Ethan’s physician, Margaret MacMillan practices.
The Kidz1stFund website accepts donations here. In 2021, Fisher informed the Houston Chronicle that a treatment had been in sight for a few years. At the time, a bone marrow transplant was FA’s sole available treatment.
To explore gene therapy, the Minnesota clinic has collaborated with medical professionals at MIT using Ethan Fisher as one of the initial case studies. A solution for Ethan Fisher could pave the way for a cure for others.
