As the company’s president and CEO, he founded the label in 2005 with 13 people. It now has four imprints: Big Machine Records, BMLG Records, The Valory Music Co. and Nash Icon Records.
He was hired as an inside mentor in the 14th and 15th seasons of American Idol in 2015. He owns the NASCAR Xfinity Series team Big Machine Racing and competes in sports car racing in the Trans-Am Series.
Before joining Big Machine, Borchetta worked as a race car driver and executive for DreamWorks Records, MCA Records and MTM Records in Nashville.

What is Scott Borchetta’s Ethnicity?
He is an American citizen with a White ethnicity. Borchetta was born to Shari and Mike Borchetta in Burbank, California. His father, “Mike Borchetta” worked in album promotions for various Los Angeles record labels including Capitol Records, RCA Records and Mercury Records.
In the 1970s, he spent his formative years in Southern California’s San Fernando Valley. When Borchetta was 16 years old, his father relocated to Nashville in order to launch his own independent record promotion business.
Scott Borchetta’s Journey: From Bassist to Music Mogul
Scott accompanied his father on a trip to Nashville, where he started playing bass in a country band and worked in his father’s mailroom selling country music. He left his band after eight months since they weren’t successful. He accepted a position with MTM Records in 1985 and worked there for three years.
Prior to working in promotion and artist development at MCA Nashville Records, DreamWorks Nashville and Universal Music Nashville, he spent two years as an independent promoter.
He made the decision to leave Universal Music Nashville in 2005 and start his own independent record label, Big Machine Records. He signed singer-songwriter Taylor Swift when he was 14 years old after first meeting her in 2004.
After winning two Grammy Awards for Album of the Year for her albums Fearless and 1989 at the 2010 and 2016 Grammy Awards, respectively, Swift would go on to become Big Machine’s most popular artist.
Scott was promoted to senior mentor in the 14th season of the reality music competition American Idol. Bell Media and Borchetta announced their partnership in February 2017 with the goal of developing a new international television format that will discover, develop and promote pop culture’s future musical superstars.
