Mary, his then-fiancee, was informed by physicians that the singer’s chances of survival were less than one per cent and that she should think about turning off life support. Randy Travis’s fiancée stood by him without complaint. The country music star’s busy itinerary, which included tour dates and an acting role in an upcoming TV pilot, was temporarily suspended.
As Mary put it:
“I saw this tear that fell, and it was one tear at a time, even in his state, his semi-coma state, he squeezed my hand, and he laid there.” I just revisited my medical professionals and declared, “We’re fighting this.”
After undergoing brain surgery, Travis remained in the hospital for nearly six months to recover. His body was injured from the near-fatal stroke. He lost his ability to communicate and had to relearn how to walk after the operation. He did it with his wife’s support and the help of physical therapy.

Is Randy Travis Health Better Now?
Physical therapy has been crucial in helping Randy Travis regain strength and mobility. He has also been seeing speech therapists in an effort to rebuild his language skills. Travis has made some progress, but he still has difficulty communicating without the aid of technology.
He has performed for the public on multiple occasions in recent years, most notably at the 2016 Country Music Awards.
