Starring Hiroki Hasegawa, Satomi Ishihara, and Ren Watabe, Godzilla Minus One is an upcoming Japanese kaiju film directed by Hideki Anno and Shinji Higuchi. After Shin Godzilla (2016), this is the first live-action Godzilla film to come out of Japan. Because it takes place the day before Godzilla attacks Japan, the title of the film alludes to that reality. In honour of Godzilla’s 70th anniversary, a new film is being produced. Godzilla Minus One Release Date
Release dates for Godzilla Minus One, the next instalment in the long-running Godzilla film series, have been announced for November 3, 2023, in Japan and December 1, 2023, in the United States.

The huge monster Godzilla, who sprang from the ocean in Ishiro Honda’s 1954 film, is often interpreted as symbolic of Japan’s postwar trauma, maybe as an allegory for nuclear weapons in the wake of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, or as an avatar of a vengeful and destructive United States.
There have been various incarnations of the huge lizard since then, some friendlier than others. Godzilla Minus One, the latest live-action Japanese Godzilla film from Toho, will be released in U.S. theatres on December 1. The film may be the clearest depiction yet of the monster’s historical connection to Japan’s darkest days.
The newest movie trailer makes that point very clear. The events of Godzilla: Minus One take place in the late 1940s, as the monster attacks a country that has been devastated by World War II. In a press release, Toho gave a bleak explanation for the film’s title: “After the war, Japan’s economic situation has been reduced to zero. When Godzilla shows up, it puts a damper on national morale.
Godzilla Toho’s first live-action Godzilla picture since 1998’s Shin Godzilla, Minus One is written and directed by Takashi Yamazaki. The company’s agreement with Legendary Pictures, the studio responsible for the American “Monsterverse” Godzilla films (released in 2019 and 2021, respectively), prevents it from releasing a live-action picture in the same year as Legendary. Fortunately, this means that Toho has an incentive to release Minus One in the United States this year, ahead of Legendary’s rollout of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire in 2024.
Take a look at the below tweet about Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire:

Where Can We Watch Godzilla Minus One?
Massive spectacle films like Godzilla movies ought to be seen on the largest screen available. When Godzilla Minus One finally hits theatres this Christmas season, that’s the only way to watch it. Toho’s intentions regarding a streaming platform release are unknown at this time.
Toho’s most recent live-action Godzilla film, Shin Godzilla, is not available to watch online at this time. Here is a tweet relating to Shin Godzilla with Godzilla minus one:

However, you can now watch the most recent Monsterverse movies in addition to some of the franchise’s historical entries, like the first movie from 1954, on Max.
