A retired American swimming champion’s unexpected demise was determined to be accidental and fentanyl-related. According to the Virgin Islands Police Department, Cail died from fentanyl intoxication and gastric content.
Fentanyl is a highly strong synthetic opioid that can be lethal in even tiny dosages. It is 50 times more strong than heroin and 100 times more potent than morphine.
A small amount of the substance can be fatal because it is up to 100 times more potent than morphine. In recent years, the frequency of overdose deaths has been largely attributed to fentanyl generated illegally.
