Kelly Clarkson’s long-awaited divorce album, Chemistry, will detail the ups and downs of her relationship with ex-husband Brandon Blackstock and its release date is rapidly approaching.
The singer, who hasn’t put out an album in six years (her 2012 release was named Meaning of Life), was married to Brandon from 2013 to 2022; they had two children together: River Rose (now 9) and Remington “Remy” Alexander (now 7).
Legal issues over their assets, particularly Kelly’s Montana ranch, as well as spousal and child support for Brandon contributed to a drawn-out and contentious divorce process that lasted from 2020 to 2022.
Kelly appeared on the Today Show on June 23 to promote her next album, and she did not hold back while discussing her divorce or the subject matter of her album.
She told Carson Daly and Hoda Kotb on the Today Show:
“I waited until I was through it [to release the album], so now it’s like a different chapter for me,” and later revealed that she delayed the record’s release in part so that she “wouldn’t be crying in all of [the interviews].”
Now that she’s ready, she says she’ll share “it’s all in there,” including the ups and downs of her relationships, the “insanely amazing” and “insanely unhealthy” chemistry she’s experienced, and even the money problems she had with her ex.
Brandon’s announcement that he wanted to quit the entertainment business and become a rancher sparked a disagreement between Kelly, who is identified as the only owner, and Brandon. His ex-wife wanted to sell the ranch, but the father of four fought against it, saying he needed it for his ranching business.
Kelly Clarkson also shared a post on her Instagram about the song:

The Today show host then cited the American Idol contestant’s song “Red Flag Collector,” in which she appears to criticize her ex-husband’s actions during the middle of their divorce:
“Sure, you can have the towels. You can take my money. Drag my name ’round town. I don’t mind, I changed it anyway.”
A judge determined in August of 2021 that he would be responsible for the costs of maintaining the property, which are estimated to be around $81,000 per month if he intended to work on the land and generate profit from it. After Kelly and Brandon broke up in June 2022, Brandon moved out, but he will continue to get financial support from Kelly until 2024.
Kelly has primary custody of the couple’s two children, and Brandon has visitation rights on the first and third weekends of each month. Nonetheless, Kelly must continue to pay Brandon $115,000 a month in spousal support until January 2024.
