Outlander’s sixth season has finally premiered on Starz/Starzplay, continuing the adventures of the Frasers and their family as they strive to construct a lovely, tranquil existence in 18th-century North Carolina.
Unfortunately, their lives are never peaceful – and it doesn’t help that the Revolutionary War is brewing – so it’s unsurprising that the current season ends with the family split apart, with Claire in danger and the rest of the family scattered across the land, including Jamie, Young Ian, Bree, Roger, Fergus, and Marsali.
So what’s in store for season seven? Everything you need to know is as follows:
Outlander Season 7 Release Date
While there was a significant 21-month droughtlander between seasons five and six owing to the pandemic, fans should not have to wait nearly as long for season seven.
According to a photo released on the show, Sam Heughan, Caitriona Balfe, Sophie Skelton, and Richard Rankin were recently reunited on the Outlander set in Scotland to start shooting on the new season’s official social media channels.
During a season six interview, Caitriona Balfe said they will shoot the following season for 13 months, which would take us up to May 2023. We’d anticipate episodes to arrive shortly after that, and Deadline has speculated that they might arrive as early as the end of this year.
Outlander Season 7 Cast
Season seven of Outlander will center on events from author Diana Gabaldon’s sixth (A Breath of Snow and Ashes) and seventh novels in the Outlander series (An Echo in the Bone).
Because those novels include all of the primary characters, the following actors will undoubtedly return:
• Sam Heughan (Jamie Fraser);
- Caitriona Balfe (Claire Fraser);
- Richard Rankin (Roger Mackenzie);
Additionally, we’d anticipate the comeback of fan favorites such as:
• David Berry (Young Ian)
- John Bell (Young Ian)
- Lauren Lyle (Marsali)
• Cesar Domboy (Fergus)
• Caitlin O’Ryan (Lizzie) (Lord John)
And, because the upcoming season must resolve cliffhangers from the conclusion of season six, several of the show’s newer cast members may return to finish their character arcs, including:
• Alexander Vlahos (Allan Christie)
• Mark Lewis Jones (Tom Christie)
• Brennan Martin (Wendigo Donner) (Josiah and Keziah Beardsley)
Outlander Season 7 Plot
Season six concluded with several major cliffhangers that will undoubtedly be addressed in season seven.
Claire is imprisoned in Wilmington and faces trial for the murder of Tom Christie’s daughter, Malva – and if convicted, she faces the death penalty.
Meanwhile, Jamie has been released from the hands of Richard Brown’s Committee of Safety and is in route to her rescue with Young Ian and John Quincy Myers, likely plotting another jailbreak (he already rescued her from Fort William in season one, and she rescued him from Wentworth in season one and from the Bastille in season two, so they both have experience in these matters).
Additionally, the seventh season must clarify who murdered Malva and the relevance of time traveler Wendigo Donner’s arrival for the Fraser family.
There is also a great deal more danger ahead for the Fraser family. Season six’s ending alluded to the nation’s developing turmoil when Claire landed in Wilmington. Season seven would see the Revolutionary War (the American War of Independence) creeping closer to Fraser’s Ridge.
An Echo In The Bone, Diana Gabaldon’s sixth novel, takes place between 1776 and 1778. The Declaration of Independence was written on July 4, 1776, and the conflict lasted until 1783.
The Fraser family is drawn into the battle, and Jamie finds himself on the wrong side of his friend Lord John and Lord John’s’son’ (in reality, Jamie’s biological son) William.
There will also be a new family member — Brianna revealed her pregnancy with her second kid in season six – which will require her and Roger to make significant decisions about where (and when?) to raise their growing family.

Outlander Season 7 Trailer
Outlander trailers are often released in conjunction with Starz’s (in the United States) and Starzplay’s (in the United Kingdom) announcement of the next series’ airing date.
This is unlikely to happen until early next year at the earliest, so we shouldn’t anticipate a season seven teaser until the end of 2022.
