Season 1 of Netflix’s new political drama The Diplomat finishes on some huge cliffhangers, as viewers who have watched all eight episodes will attest.
In The Diplomat, Keri Russell plays Kate Wyler, a newly appointed U.S. diplomat in the UK who, along with her husband Hal (Rufus Sewell), British foreign secretary Austin Dennison (David Gyasi), her right-hand man Stuart Hayford (Ato Essandoh), and London’s CIA chief Eidra Park (Ali Ahn), is trying to figure out who is responsible for an explosion on a British aircraft carrier that killed dozens of sailors.
Kate and Dennison’s shocking last revelation is a dramatic climax to the story. However, as another attack is carried out, Kate’s loved ones’ fates become uncertain. Will the unanswered questions be answered? Will Netflix renew The Diplomat for a second season? The revival of The Diplomat and the plots of Season 2 are discussed below. Beware, this article contains The Diplomat spoilers.
Will Netflix Renew The Diplomat for Season 2?
On April 20, 2023, The Diplomat Season 1 dropped with all eight episodes. Netflix has not announced the status of Season 2 as of April 24; nevertheless, it is not out of the ordinary for a streaming service to wait a bit after a series premieres before making such a decision.
We may imagine The Diplomat returning with more new episodes due to the success of the creator, Debora Cahn, the star power of Russell and Sewell, and the extremely high reviews from critics. This story will be updated once Decider receives a response from Netflix.
We also know there are a lot of storylines from Season 1 waiting to be carried over and further explored if the show gets renewed for a second season.

The Diplomat Season 2 Storylines
At the end of the season finale, Kate and Dennison figure out that Prime Minister Nicol Trowbridge (Rory Kinnear) was probably responsible for the attack on Britain because he hired Roman Lenkov. Merritt Grove, Hal, Hayford, and Ronnie were all in the vicinity of a car bomb that went off as Grove attempted to get into his vehicle, and their stories will be explored in Season 2 as a result of that incriminating revelation.
Eventually, we’ll figure out who planted the bomb (Trowbridge? Maggie Roylin??) and explain why. And we’ll find out if there’s been any movement on the possibility of Kate becoming Vice President.
We need more of the love triangle between Kate, Hal, and Dennison, so here’s hoping that Season 2 of The Diplomat isn’t all business.
You can now watch the first season of The Diplomat on Netflix.
