Colorado Republican Representative Lauren Boebert has made the announcement that she would soon become “a 36-year-old grandma,” while also applauding “rural conservative communities” who “respect life.”
The Colorado Republican’s son Tyler is expecting a baby next month with his girlfriend.
“I’m going to tell you all for the first time in a public setting, that not only am I a mom of four boys, but come April, I will be a gigi to a brand new grandson,” Boebert said this week at a Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) event.
The lawmaker described her and her husband as “so excited to welcome this new life into our family.”
“Now any of you who have young children who are giving life, there’s some questions that pop up. There’s some fear that arises,” Boebert told the audience as she was presented with the Moms for America’s “Mothers Influence Award” on Tuesday for taking “an incredible stance in empowering moms, promoting liberty, and raising patriots!”
They are “very happy to welcome this new life into our family,” the politician said of herself and her spouse.
When Boebert fell pregnant at a young age, she decided to forgo finishing high school so that she could focus on raising her kid. She claimed to have graduated high school in 2020.
“But one of our biggest fears was not what are you going to do? What are people going to say? Our biggest fear is: Are they going to choose life?” Boebert said of her son and his significant other.
“And they did. And we’re so proud of them for making that sacrifice and being selfless in that position to say there’s something greater here,” she said to applause before speaking about teen pregnancy rates.
“There’s something special about rural conservative communities — they value life. If you look at teen pregnancy rates throughout the nation, well, they’re the same in rural and urban areas. However, abortion rates are higher in urban areas, and teen mom rates are higher in rural, conservative areas because we understand the preciousness of the life that is about to be born,” Boebert said.
Yet among our greatest concerns was not what are you going to do? The reactions of others… Our greatest concern is whether or not they will opt for death. The mother of Boebert’s son spoke glowingly of his girlfriend.
And they did. When asked about the prevalence of teen pregnancies, she stated, “And we’re so proud of them for making that sacrifice and being selfless in that position to say there’s something higher here.” This was welcomed with applause.
Conservatives in rural areas have a unique perspective on life. Teen pregnancy rates are uniform across the country, regardless of location. Boebert remarked, “We appreciate the preciousness of the child that is soon to be born,” which may help explain why teen pregnancy is more prevalent in rural, conservative communities than in urban centers.

According to the National Center for Health Statistics, in 2015, 18.9 out of every 1,000 female teenagers in metropolitan areas gave birth, whereas this number increased to 30.9 out of every 1,000 in counties with a population of fewer than 50,000, as reported by PBS. While the teen birth rate has decreased by around halfway across the country since 2007, it has decreased by only about one-third in rural areas.
In an interview, Boebert said she and her husband are “working together” with their son and his girlfriend to “make sure that they are fantastic parents, that they have the love and support that they need.”
The new addition to the Boebert family is “a gorgeous little guy,” she gushed.
