Black Summer is an American apocalyptic fiction television series created by Karl Schaefer and John Hyams.
The Asylum had picked the film for production and for the unversed, it is the same production company that produced Z Nation written by Karl Schaefer and Craig Engler.
The series stars Jaime King, Christine Lee, Justin Chu Cary, Kelsey Flower, Sal Velez Jr., Erika Hau, Gwynyth Walsh, Mustafa Alabssi, Edsson Morales, and Zoe Marlett.
The first season of the series premiered on April 11, 2019, on Netflix with a total of 8 episodes. Netflix officially renewed the series for a second season in November 2019 which aired on June 17, 2021, with a total of eight episodes.
The series gathered lots of love and appreciation from audiences as well as critics and has an IMDB rating of 6.6 out of 10 and 89 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.
Fans are curious to know about the third season of Black Summer and here’s what we know so far about it. Read out the full article below to know everything.
Black Summer Season 3 Release Date
The second season dropped last year in June and after almost more than 10 months of the premiere, there is no hint from the streaming giant regarding the third season of Black Summer.
Typically, Netflix confirms the renewal of the series at least a month after the premiere of the last season and with that, it becomes apparent that the series’ renewal is taking longer than expected.
We hope Netflix announces some positive updates soon about Black Summer Season 3 but as of now, there is no word for renewal for a third season. If the series’ season 3 happens, we can expect it to air in late 2022 or early 2023.
In an interview with Entertainment weekly, Jaime King, who portrays the character of Rose, stated that she believes there will be a third season but it isn’t confirmed yet.
Black Summer Season 3 Cast
As of now, nothing has been shared about the cast of the third season of Black Summer but we can expect all the cast to return for a third season if it happens.
- Jaime King to portray the character of Rose,
- Zoe Marlett to portray the character of Anna.
- Jesse Lipscombe to portray the character of Mance.
- Christine Lee to portray the character of Ooh “Sun” Kyungsun
There may be additions or changes to the cast joining the prospective third season, we need to wait for confirmation about that.
Black Summer Season 3 Expected Storyline
In an interview with Express.co.uk., the king said “I have a few ideas,” adding further “I’m excited to get the writer’s room going again. This is the kind of series that could go on forever, but I think it would be really powerful to do it in just three seasons, if possible.”
“What do you do when there are no more commodities left? Exploring that idea.”
In another interview, when she was questioned about where it could move next, she stated “Hypothetically speaking, I would center it on different chapters, where we are exploring sort of three central figures in different places. But that’s just, I don’t know, sketches.”
Let’s take a dig into what we saw in the last season, in the finale episode of the second season, Sun was the single person who made it to the flight.
Fortunately, the Korean-speaking pilot appears to be quite good also but where are they moving? Will things turn out to be safe for them as they ultimately land? With the level of popularity Sun gained among fans, it would be really surprising if her story does not get developed further in the third season.
Hence, that leaves Rose and Anna. They did not manage to make it to the plane, in fact, we don’t know whether they are still alive. Anna returned to restore her mother who was left behind injured on the ground, though later she ended up hijacking a car. Did she drive the car off without Rose?
The end of the second season left so many things unanswered and this gives hope that the series will be renewed. Or maybe there is some other plan altogether.
We hope that Netflix will soon announce the renewal of the series and cheer the fans. We will keep you updated with all the latest information until then stay tuned to our website.
