Why Elon Musk Suspends Taylor Lorenz From Twitter? Democrat and current House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff of California blasted Musk on Friday for his decision to bar reporters. To excuse his indifference to bigotry and hatred on Twitter, Elon Musk labels himself a “free speech absolutist.” And yet without warning, journalists are banned when they report unfavorable news, Schiff wrote on Twitter. It seems that the commitment to free speech is not as unwavering as many would have us believe. But hypocrisy is.
Thank God, you lose your chairmanship very soon, Musk retorted to Schiff. Your head is too puny for your own good. Lorenz posted a photo of herself and New York Times reporter Ryan Mac to Instagram on Saturday, with both of them covering their mouths in the photo.
Why Elon Musk Suspends Taylor Lorenz From Twitter?
Taylor Lorenz, a tech columnist for the Washington Post, claims her account was suspended on Saturday after she tweeted at Elon Musk, the tech mogul and new owner of Twitter, asking for comment on a story she was writing. After activating her Twitter account (@TaylorLorenz) in 2010, Lorenz attracted more than 340,000 followers before abruptly deactivating it in 2014.
She posted on Substack, Earlier tonight, Elon Musk suspended my Twitter account. The company never explained to me why I was suspended or what rules I broke. It seems like Elon is blocking anyone who disagrees with him, Lorenz said in a video she posted to TikTok on Saturday night. Before his other Twitter account, @nodreamsoflabor was suspended, Lorenz tweeted from there. Musk has been silent on Twitter’s suspension of Lorenz. Variety’s inquiry to Twitter’s PR inbox went unanswered.

After the mega-billionaire suspended the accounts of several journalists on Thursday, alleging they had “doxxed” him after some but not all had posted links to an account that tracked his private jet, Twitter banned Lorenz, who has regularly reported on Twitter and Musk but later reinstated several of them on Friday night.
Musk, who has described himself as a “free speech absolutist” appears to be waging a campaign to remove information and commentary critical of him from the platform he bought for $44 billion by disabling Lorenz’s account without providing a clear explanation.
What Were Lorenz’s Words after her Account Was Suspended?
Lorenz claimed in a Substack post that when her account was suspended, it contained only three tweets: two promoting her TikTok and Instagram profiles and one asking Musk for comment on a story involving Musk that she and her WaPo colleague Drew Harwell whose account was suspended and then unblocked have been working on.
Lorenz was cryptic about the plot of the story. One of the tweets she sent to Musk read, “We’ve learned some information that we’d like to share and discuss with you.” This week, Twitter banned and then reinstated the accounts of at least two journalists, Aaron Rupar and Tony Webster, who both claimed they had not engaged in “doxxing” the practice of disclosing private information about an individual without that individual’s consent, on Twitter.
This is not the free speech we were promised, Webster tweeted late on a Friday. Let me be perfectly clear: there was no doxing, despite what an irrational, answerable-to-nobody oligarch might have said. Some of the journalists whom Twitter has suspended are being asked to delete tweets because they violate Musk’s new policy against sharing real-time location information regardless if this information is publicly available.
Which are other accounts that were Suspended by Elon Musk?
On Saturday, podcaster and political commentator Keith Olbermann wrote on his Twitter dog-rescue account about the suspension of his @keitholbermann account: “I’ve been unbanned then time-banned then re-banned then banned until I delete a tweet you can’t see anyway… in the span of two hours.” What a clown this @elonmusk snowflake is.

Fox Business correspondent Susan Li (@susanlitv) was among the journalists whose accounts were suspended after they demonstrated how Musk’s private jet could be tracked using publicly available sources. Her account has still not been restored as of this writing. Linette Lopez (@lopezlinette), a reporter for Insider who has covered Musk and his companies for years was also still banned from Twitter as of Saturday. Shortly before her suspension, Lopez told the Associated Press that she had tweeted legal documents that included a 2018 email address for Musk, which Lopez claimed was no longer valid.
