An official release date, full title, and trailer for a new Dungeons & Dragons film have finally been announced after the project had been in development hell for years.
Announcements from the Dungeons & Dragons organization: There has been a lot of anticipation for Honor Among Thieves, and now fans can get their hands on some of the details they’ve been waiting for.
This summer has been fantastic for fans of the classic tabletop role-playing game and fantasy lovers in general thanks to the wealth of information, entertainment, and interactive events around the film’s debut at San Diego Comic-Con.
What is Dungeons & Dragons Honor Among Thieves About?
A Roleplaying Game of Honor for Dungeons & Dragons The protagonists of Among Thieves are, predictably, a group of thieves who “helped the wrong person steal the wrong thing” and must now set things right in order to rescue the world.
Thieves or not, they have no intention of letting the ultimate evil rule their world. Elgin, a bard and the group’s leader, is joined by Holga, a barbarian, Xenk, a paladin, Simon, a sorcerer, and Doric, a tiefling druid.
Star Elgin actor Chris Pine has compared it to “Game of Thrones combined with a little Princess Bride [and] just a dab of Holy Grail,” calling the picture “poppy, it’s very sincere, [and] there’s a bit of Goonies in there.”
The film will have a “lot of Easter eggs crammed in there,” the director and writer John Daley have promised, so aficionados of the D&D tabletop games need not worry about the absence of any recognizable spells, tropes, or things from the original games.

Who Is the Cast and Crew of Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves?
Honor in Dungeons & Dragons Among the film’s A-list cast is Chris Pine, who plays the bard Elgin. Pine, in a conversation with Collider, referred to this persona as “the ultimate party planner.” Pine has become famous for his role as Captain James Kirk in the new Star Trek flicks. In Wonder Woman, he portrayed Steve Trevor.
Michelle Rodriguez co-stars as a savage named Holga. Rodriguez has been in numerous films and television shows, most notably as Ana on Lost and Letty in the Fast & Furious series. Hugh Grant is a great choice to play the role of Forge Fletcher, an aristocratic yet villainous rogue.
Grant has played a wide variety of rakishly dashing males in films ranging from Bridget Jones’s Diary to Paddington 2. Recently, he was seen in The Undoing, in which he portrayed a more sinister but no less engaging character.
We can’t wait to watch him in his Dungeons & Dragons Honor Among Thieves role as Forge Fletcher. Grant said he was delighted to read the script because it was one of the few comedic roles he’d been offered recently. He also saw some Monty Python influences in the writing.
Audiences may recognize Justice Smith from Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom or Detective Pikachu, and he will be playing a sorcerer named Simon in this film. Smith’s acting resume also includes parts as Zeke in The Get Down and Radar in Paper Towns.

The paladin Xenk will be played by Regé-Jean Page, aka Bridgerton’s own Simon Basset. The story of how a paladin turned into a thief intrigues us much. 2022’s The Gray Man included Page as one of the leads.
Sophia Lillis plays the role of the tiefling druid Doric. Lillis has appeared in Sharp Objects, It: Chapter Two, and Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase, both of which came out in 2019.
Dralas is played by Jason Wong, who is also known for his roles in Jarhead 2 and Strangers on ITV. Chloe Coleman of Little Big Lies and Daisy Head of the Netflix series Shadow and Bone and the horror flick Wrong Turn also star.
Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, shot primarily in Northern Ireland with additional production in Iceland, promises to be a visually stunning film when the action finally slows down.
The directors of Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves are Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley, who also co-wrote the script with Michael Gilio. Both Spider-Man: Homecoming and the black comedy Game Night were co-written and directed by Goldstein and Daley. Entertainment One and Sweetpea Entertainment Productions are the film’s producers.
Is There a Trailer for Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves?
There has been much anticipation for a full-length trailer since the April release of a teaser trailer that only revealed the film’s title. On July 21st, the long-awaited first full trailer for Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves was finally unveiled to the public.
The trailer does a fantastic job of introducing us to the film’s protagonists and setting. Trailer action and comedy are showcased to the tune of “Whole Lotta Love” by Led Zeppelin. One of the party did change into an owlbear, and we think we also saw a mimic dressed as a chest.
This film looks like it could be a smash with Guardians of the Galaxy fans thanks to the trailer’s hip blend of action, comedy, and classic rock.
There may be further trailers released before the film’s actual release date, but we found this one to be a fantastic introduction that should have fans of the franchise as well as those who have never played Dungeons & Dragons intrigued.
How to Watch Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves
Although viewers have to wait until March 2023 to witness the action comedy Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, the film’s production is moving forward at a rapid pace and a more definite release date should be announced in the near future. The movie’s MPA rating and length are also unknown at this time.
The film’s original release date was March 3, 2023, when it was slated to premiere opposite Creed III in another huge blockbuster. However, in November 2022, the release date was pushed back to March 31, 2023, which was previously occupied by Paramount’s Scream 6.
Fans of Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves were finally rewarded for their patience with a fantastic trailer, a panel at San Diego Comic-Con, and an interactive event for those interested in grabbing a drink at Quincy’s Tavern. Next year, we plan to see this movie in theaters.
