‘The Princess Diaries 3’ will go down in history as one of the most memorable things in the early 2000s. Twenty years after its release, the famous chick film is still on every girl’s top-ten list of favorite movies.
Long before the release of the first two films, there were rumors about a third. To our great regret, the series creator, director, and producer passed away in 2016. What is the current status of the film ‘The Princess Diaries 3’? Is this still taking place? Here’s what we know thus far.
Will There Be a Third Season of ‘The Princess Diaries’?
Everything is conceivable, but there has been no official confirmation of a third season of ‘The Princess Diaries as of this writing. There have been several discussions concerning the third installment in the series.
In 2020, Queen Andrews stated on The Talk that a third installment of ‘The Princess Diaries’ could be in the works.
“I’d heard there was a possibility of one,” she confessed. “It’s been spoken about for a long time, but nothing has ever appeared on my desk.
I’m not sure I’d go through with it. I’m starting to feel a little cranky and elderly. I’m not sure whether it’s the appropriate time, but I think it would be wonderful to collaborate with Annie [Anne Hathaway, who portrayed Princess Mia] once more, and I’m confident that I’d be up for it.
Let us wait for—if a script is received, we should wait for it. Of course, we wouldn’t have the amazing Gary Marshall as the director if it weren’t the case. He’s no longer alive. And he was the lynchpin of the entire operation.”
"I’m getting awfully old and crotchety. I’m not sure if it’s the right timing, but I think to work with Annie [Hathaway] would be lovely again. And yeah, sure I would be up for it.” – @JulieAndrews on a potential “Princess Diary 3” movie. pic.twitter.com/0qY07FlFMi

Garry Marshall was already working on the third film when he passed away last year. “I had the pleasure of spending some time with Anne Hathaway a few weeks ago.
We will be filming The Princess Diaries 3 in New York City. “People magazine published an interview with the director in March 2016. Unfortunately, none of his initiatives come to fruition. The director passed away on July 19, 2016, due to complications from pneumonia, which developed after he suffered a stroke.

Is ‘The Princess Diaries 3’ a sequel to the first two books?
There has been no confirmation of a third film. The people behind the popular film series, on the other hand, have stated that a script has already been written.
Anne Hathaway said that a script for the third film had already been prepared earlier this year.
“It has been written a script for the third film. “Watch What Happens…,” she said on the show, there is a script in place. “It’s something I want to do. Julie [Andrews] seems enthusiastic about the idea. Debra Martin Chase, our producer, is enthusiastic about the idea. It is something that we all desire to happen.
We don’t want to release it until it’s perfect since we adore it just as much as you do. You and we both value this importance, and we don’t want to deliver anything until it is complete. However, we are working on it, so please be patient.”
‘Princess Diaries’ book series author Meg Cabot had already stated that the screenplay had been written before Hathaway confirmed it. The actress went on to say that if a film is made, it will be “in some ways” a memorial to director Garry Marshall, who died in 2016.
When it comes to the plot, it is likely to diverge from the novels, since the author has stated, “I conceive of them as two separate universes,” about the books.
When Is ‘The Princess Diaries 3’ Going to Be Released?
No formal announcement for a third picture has been made, despite widespread interest in seeing the characters again and ‘The Princess Diaries’ success at the box office. As a result, there will be a long and interminable wait.
It was 2001 when the first installment of “The Princess Diaries” was released. The sequel, “The Princess Diaries 2: The Royal Engagement,” was released in 2004.
Since 2015, there have been rumblings of a third film in the franchise. Unfortunately, there have been no formal announcements on its reappearance.
Who Could Make a Return in ‘The Princess Diaries 3: Who Could Return?
If a third picture is given the green light, we anticipate that the main cast members will return to reprise their respective roles. “The Princess Diaries” would not exist without Anne Hathaway in the role of Mia Thermopolis, who is also the heir to the throne and Princess of Genovia.
In the upcoming film, Julie Andrews is reportedly expected to reprise her role as Clarisse Renaldi, Mia’s calm, regal grandmother and the reigning Queen of Genovia.
The other cast members have also indicated a wish to return for a third installment.
Mandy Moore would also be delighted to appear in a cameo role. Lana, the cruel cheerleader from the previous flicks, was played by the actress.
