Furthermore, the Russian leader claimed that his country had a moral obligation to safeguard residents in the Russian-occupied parts of Ukraine as they staged a series of “referendums” this week to join the Russian Federation.
Putin has repeatedly accused Ukraine and its supporters of threatening Russia with nuclear weapons and has accused Western powers of arming Ukraine with long-range military systems that can strike deep into Russian territory. Putin said Russia and its people would defend themselves with “all available means,” including their effective nuclear weapons. Putin insisted, “This is not a bluff.”
