High school student Hae Min Lee (born October 15, 1980) was reported missing on 13 January 1999 from her home in Baltimore County, Maryland. Her strangled death was discovered in Leakin Park four weeks later. Here you will read details relating to who killed Hae Min Lee? Is anyone else suspected other than Adnan Syed?
Adnan Masud Syed, Lee’s ex-boyfriend, was born on May 21, 1981. He was initially convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison plus 30 years. The murder was revisited in 2014 when it was discussed on the podcast Serial.
Syed had his conviction overturned and a new trial was ordered by Judge Martin P. Welch in 2016. In 2018, the Maryland Court of Special Appeals maintained the lower court’s ruling, but in 2019, the Maryland Court of Appeals reversed it. In September of 2022, a court overturned Syed’s conviction after prosecutors discovered new evidence.
Who Killed Hae Min Lee?
Adnan Syed, age 41 at the time of his conviction for the 1999 murder of Hae Min Lee, had his sentence reversed on September 19, 2022, due to new evidence suggesting he may have been innocent.
Hae Min Lee’s body was allegedly unearthed in Leakin Park, Baltimore, on February 9, 1999. Using the fact that Adnan Syed was Lee’s ex-boyfriend, prosecutors charged him with murder in 2000. Using Syed’s phone’s location history, police believe he may have been near where Lee was slain. However, it has been claimed that this material has since been discredited.
