Darius Rucker’s Childhood
Rucker was born in Charleston, South Carolina on May 13, 1966; as of 2022, he is 56 years old. His mom raised him and his five siblings by working as a nurse. He was from a poor family and used to visit a church regularly. Even though he faced an immense financial crisis as a child, he recalls his childhood with loving memories. He dreamt of becoming a professional singer since he was very young.

Musical Career
In 1986, he founded his rock band, “Hootie & the Blowfish,” with his friends Mark Bryan, Jim Sonefeld, and Dean Felber. They released their debut album entitled “Cracked Rear View,” in 1994 which was successful. Following that, he released other albums titled “Musical Chairs,” “Fairweather Johnson,” “Hootie & the Blowfish,” “Scattered, Smothered, & Covered,” and “Looking for Lucky.” Among these, many songs made their way to the top 40 and a few songs were written by Rucker.
Later, the group took a ten-year break and reunited in 2019. They then toured with the Barenaked Ladies and the same year they released their new album entitled “Imperfect Circle.”

In 2001, he also started his solo career with the release of the album “The Return of Mongo Slade.” The album was later renamed to “Back to Then” in 2002 when it was released under Hidden Beach Recordings. He paid his full attention to Country music throughout the remainder of his solo career. Capitol Records Nashville signed him in 2008 and rolled out his debut solo Country track titled, “Don’t Think I Don’t Think About It,” which was later included in his second solo album, “Learn to Live.” It was certified platinum with many successful singles.
He also won the New Artist Award. Rucker then released his third studio album, “Charleston, SC 1966,” in October 2010. The song “Come Back Song” peaked at number #1 on the Country charts.
He then released the 2013 album “True Believers,” which also had many hits including “Wagon Wheel.” His single “Wagon Wheel” received the Grammy Award for Best Country Solo Performance.
His album “Southern Style” was released in 2015 and the single “Homegrown Honey” dominated the charts. He collaborated with Sister Hazel for the fifth country album. In 2017, he released the album entitled “When Was the Last Time.”
