Maake kaNcube’s Divorce
According to reports, legendary actor Sello Maake kaNcube and his wife Pearl Mbewe have filed for divorce. The former The Queen star and his three-year wife split up last year, according to news outlets.
The couple, who were married in 2021, reportedly got into a fight over Maake kaNcube’s purported ex-partner, which led to the actor pursuing Mbewe from their Dube, Soweto, home.

Maake KaNcube was allegedly flirting with Cynthia Hlahla, better known by her stage name Lacoste, who is said to be the previous partner. According to Sunday World, during their text exchanges, the Skeem Saam star inquired about Hlahla’s relationship status. He allegedly also admitted to her that she was in his thoughts all the time. But Hlahla supposedly did not buy his story.
The source said, “She said he was just pretending to love her, saying she knew he was in love with Pearl. She even asked him to be honest with her and tell her if he wants her to help him leave South Africa for the US instead of lying about having the hots for her.”
Following Maake kaNcube’s wife’s move out, the actor supposedly attempted to reignite their romance by sending a delegation to settle the outstanding lobolo; however, Mbewe turned him down.
The actor approached Swanepoel van Zyl Attorneys to assist him in filing for divorce after failing to get Mbewe back. The company allegedly demanded payment in full upfront (R25,000).
Maake KaNcube confirmed calling the law firm in an interview and remarked, “I haven’t even paid them yet.” Maake kaNcube was previously wed in 2015, but he separated from Palesa Mboweni after just eight months of marriage.
Because the ex-couple was married in a community of property, the Pretoria High Court ordered them to divide and share their inheritance equally in 2022. Maake KaNcube retaliated on Instagram, writing: “I can not believe I was married to a con artist and you guys called me names when I realized my blunder and divorced her after eight months!”
“I’m not fighting this matter because I want to bash my ex-wife, I want the truth to be known and maybe I can help the young men who may fall victim to women similar to my ex-wife.”
“For the record, I must categorically and unequivocally state that I don’t think all women behave or do things that my ex-wife did to me. Just be careful and do your independent character assessment before you commit to anyone.”
“The shares don’t even matter to me it’s a matter of principle, this marriage was flawed and based on falsehood to start with, and the misrepresentation by my ex-wife is even too disgusting to mention all the things she did. I mean the woman tried to change her children’s surnames to my name without my knowledge and I wouldn’t have known if I hadn’t overheard a telephone conversation between her and her mother.”
