Details About the Helicopter Crash
The FAA said a helicopter crashed near Nipton, California, around 10 p.m. on Friday. It happened about 60 miles south of Las Vegas in San Bernardino County. The FAA and NTSB are investigating.
During a news conference, NTSB member Michael Graham said the helicopter belonged to Orbic Air, a charter company based in California. It was flying from Palm Springs, California, to Boulder City, Nevada.
The helicopter went up at about 8:45 p.m. and then crashed a bit after 10 p.m. near Interstate 15 in Halloran Springs, California. Graham mentioned that people who were there saw either the crash happen or what came after. They said it all went down during rainy and wintry weather.
Graham said,
“There was fire when the aircraft did contact the terrain”
In another press meeting on Sunday, Graham explained that the helicopter went down from a height of about 1,000 to 1,500 feet, picked up speed, and crashed into the ground with its nose pointing downward and tilted to the right.
Graham said the mess from the crash spread out for 100 yards. He also mentioned that they found all the big parts of the plane. He said,
“I’d like to express our deepest sympathies to the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives in this terrible tragedy.”
