The medical word “myositis” originally meant “muscle inflammation,” but it has now evolved to describe a condition characterized by persistent muscular inflammation, often accompanied by additional symptoms. The illness is uncommon, difficult to identify and potentially fatal or severely disabled.
Myositis currently has no known cure and further study and collaboration are required to determine the most effective course of therapy. This is an exciting period for IBM research, even if there is yet no cure. To discover a successful treatment, researchers are now taking people for many clinical studies.

When Did Peter Frampton Disclose About His Illness?
In 2019, Mr. Frampton disclosed to the public that he was diagnosed with inclusion body myositis (IBM). He is unfazed by the task and keeps touring and making songs. His most recent endeavor was the June 2023 start of his “Never Say Never Tour” in North America.
Since then, Frampton has worked hard to increase public knowledge of myositis and has established himself as a well-known advocate for the myositis community. He is contributing to the fight against myositis by encouraging people who have the illness to enjoy life to the fullest despite any physical restrictions.
This is made possible by his unwavering spirit. Using his notoriety, Mr. Frampton is trying to generate much-needed money for myositis research, both in terms of aetiology and therapy. Here at Johns Hopkins, where he receives treatment, he founded the Peter Frampton Myositis Research Fund.
A dollar from each ticket sold during his 2019 Farewell Tour, in addition to sales of T-shirts, went towards the charity. The Myositis Association is very appreciative of Mr. Frampton’s candor in sharing his story in public and for sharing a powerful message of inspiration and hope despite his struggle with this progressive, disabling illness.
