Exploring Behzinga’s Journey from Gaming to Mental Health Advocacy
While still enrolled in school, Payne registered the “Behzinga” YouTube account on February 24, 2012. He clarified that the name originated from “The Big Bang Theory”, one of his favorite television shows in which Sheldon Cooper often utters the catchphrase “Bazinga!” Payne changed the spelling.
He mostly posted video game commentary for the Call of Duty and FIFA video game franchises throughout his early work. His content approach evolved to include humor, football and fitness videos. Payne, along with four other British YouTubers, founded the entertainment group Ultimate Sidemen on October 19, 2013, which they subsequently abbreviated to just Sidemen.
The Sunday Times ranked Payne as the 31st most important web creative in the UK in September 2019. He called KSI vs. Logan Paul II for Sky Sports Box Office that November.
His three-part YouTube Originals documentary series, How to Be Behzinga, detailing his battle with depression and his journey to completing the London Marathon to raise money for the Teenage Cancer Trust, premiered in October 2020.
He said that he had battled alcoholism in the past and considered ending his life, but he was able to overcome his struggles with the help of his fellow Sidemen members. He has shed 36 kg (79 lb) throughout a time between 2018 and 2019.
He is now a mental health advocate who has discussed the value of talking about emotions and dispelling the myth that males are not mentally sick.
