A female passenger’s “strange death” on the Carnival Sunshine is being investigated by the FBI, but the cruise line has claimed that the death looks to be natural. The FBI said that the woman was found unresponsive on the ship on February 27 during its cruise to Nassau, Bahamas.
The crew tried their utmost to save the unnamed female passenger, but she was pronounced dead on board. The reason for death is unknown at this time, though Carnival has now issued a statement suggesting they suspect natural causes.
Carnival said in the statement on Tuesday, March 8, 2023:
“While we continue to cooperate with authorities, all indications pertaining to the death of a guest on board Carnival Sunshine suggest that it was a natural death due to a medical condition”.
Carnival Cruise Line spokesperson Matt Lupoli said in a statement to CNN:
“Both the deceased and her husband were debarked in Nassau and Bahamian authorities have already investigated the circumstances and are conducting an autopsy”.
While the FBI is currently looking into the matter, the cruise company announced on Tuesday, March 7, 2023 that “all signs” point to a “natural death” due to a medical ailment.
Carnival Cruise Line stated in a statement:
“We will defer to the FBI on any specific details which may possibly be released at a later date as we fully respect the investigative process, but our initial emergency medical response was appropriate and it appears that this was indeed a medical situation that sadly resulted in the death of a guest”.
The FBI’s official spokeswoman declined to elaborate on the report. Since “this is an ongoing inquiry,” FBI spokesman Kevin Wheeler declined to comment to CNN about the company’s statement. The cruise line has previously stated that it is helping investigators.
A crew from the FBI inspected the passenger’s room for evidence on March 4 after the ship had returned to Charleston. There was no danger to other passengers either before or after the woman’s body was discovered, according to the FBI.
According to the announcement, the FBI looks into “some crimes on the high seas” and “strange deaths” of US citizens. The FBI says they are still looking into the event.
