Havin Morris, West Point Cadet From Bay Area Dies
Havin Morris, 21, of Pleasanton, vanished from sight in Fort Lauderdale late on Saturday. According to the police, his body was discovered in the city’s downtown region on Monday night in the New River.

According to a police statement provided to news outlets, “the information gathered throughout our investigation led FLPD’s Dive Team to search the New River near the area where he was last seen. Divers located his body on Monday night. At this time, his death appears to be an accidental drowning, and no foul play is suspected.”
According to reports, Morris texted his parents at about 11 p.m. on Saturday night while out with three friends at a nightclub. According to his friends, who saw him there at one in the morning, they lost sight of him afterward.
Morris’s body was discovered by a police dive team near his last known location in the river, a police official said. Morris’s Facebook page states that he enrolled in West Point in 2020 after graduating from Pleasanton’s Amador Valley High School.
According to a statement released by West Point Superintendent Lt. Gen. Steve Gilland, “Cadet Morris was a valued member of the Corps of Cadets, committed to serving his country as an Army Officer. The entire West Point Community offers our heartfelt condolences to the Morris family.”
Morris’ family will receive help from a casualty assistance officer authorized by the U.S. Army, according to the statement. Additionally, Fort Lauderdale police and the Army’s Criminal Inquiry Command were working together on the death investigation.
