The lawmaker, who was eighty-two years old, passed away suddenly from complications resulting from a fall, according to his relatives.

According to a different CBS News statement, “Senator Lieberman’s love of God, his family, and America endured throughout his life of service in the public interest.”

Lieberman served in the Senate for twenty-four years before being chosen to be Al Gore’s running mate in the 2000 presidential contest. In one of the closest contests in American history, the ticket was lost.

Joe Lieberman And The Democratic Party Split Up

The writers of “Jews in American Politics” noted that no Jew “had ever sought such a lofty office,” making Lieberman’s VP ticket unique for Jews in politics.

They stated that the “net effect of the nomination has been to change the perception of what is possible for Jewish candidates for office for all time.”

The politician attempted, but failed, to obtain a Democratic presidential candidacy four years after losing his vice presidential ticket. His contentious support for the Iraq War was probably a factor in his downfall.

He was then elected as an independent to the Senate for his final term in 2006. Sen. John McCain, a Republican from Arizona who passed away in 2008, considered choosing Lieberman to be his running mate.

Closed Ones Pay Tribute To Joe Lieberman

Numerous prominent people, including former President Barack Obama, have paid respect to Lieberman since word of his passing made headlines.

“Joe Lieberman and I didn’t always see eye to eye, but he had an extraordinary career in public service, including four decades spent fighting for the people of Connecticut,” Obama said on X (previously Twitter).

Obama went on, “He also put a lot of effort into getting ‘Don’t Ask Don’t Tell’ repealed and assisted me in passing the Affordable Care Act. Even if the politics were challenging in both situations, he remained true to his beliefs because he knew they were the right ones. Michelle and I would want to offer Hadassah and the Lieberman family our sincere sympathies.”

Senator Chris Murphy, a Democrat, stated on X, “The unexpected death of Senator Lieberman has rocked Connecticut. In a time when politicians were copying each other, Joe Lieberman stood apart. Just one. He battled and prevailed for the state he loved and for what he thought was right. Hadassah and the whole family are in my thoughts and prayers.”

Lieberman has been described by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as “an extraordinarily kind and loyal personal friend.”
