When did Georges Niang Start His Professional Career?
Niang began his NBA journey when the Indiana Pacers selected him as the 50th overall pick in the 2016 NBA draft on June 23, 2016. He impressed early on during the 2016 NBA Summer League, earning praise from Larry Bird.
On July 11, 2016, he got a deal with the Pacers. Throughout his rookie season, he had stints with the Fort Wayne Mad Ants of the NBA Development League before being waived by the Pacers on July 14, 2017.
After that, Niang joined the Santa Cruz Warriors for the 2017–2018 season after signing an Exhibit 10 contract with the Golden State Warriors on August 16, 2017. However, he was waived by the Warriors on October 14, 2017, leading him to affiliate with the Santa Cruz Warriors.
Transitioning to the Utah Jazz in 2018, Niang signed a two-way contract on January 14, taking the spot previously held by his college teammate Naz Mitrou-Long. He split his playing time between the Jazz and their NBA G League affiliate, the Salt Lake City Stars, for the remainder of the season.
On July 13, 2018, Niang secured a standard contract with the Jazz. He showcased his skills with notable performances, including a career-high 24 points against the Los Angeles Clippers on April 10, 2019, and a similar feat against the Houston Rockets on May 8, 2021.
