The TV series “Griselda” on Netflix tells the story of Griselda Blanco, played by Sofia Vergara, and her journey to become a powerful figure in the Miami cocaine trade during the ’70s and ’80s.
She climbs to the top with a fierce desire for success, using violent tactics against anyone who opposes her. Jorge “Rivi” Ayala, portrayed by Martín Rodríguez, is Blanco’s right-hand man and often carries out brutal acts that contribute to her rise and eventual downfall in the show.
At first, Rivi is shown as a hired killer for a different gang in Griselda’s world. Later on, he joined Blanco’s team and became her top enforcer. Blanco trusted him more than her husband, Darío Sepúlveda, to carry out tough tasks.
This included some extreme orders, like the tragic killing of Jesus “Chacho” Castro’s two-year-old son, Johnny Castro, and later, dealing with the drug-selling couple Alfredo and Grizel Lorenzo.
“At first I had to trust in the character and defend him,” Martín Rodríguez, who plays Rivi in Griselda, told Today. “He had a complex personality and was ambiguous in the way he acted.”
What Happened to Rivi From Griselda?
Griselda shows the last part of Rivi’s life of crime. This includes him getting caught for robbing a bank and deciding to work with the police against Blanco. He hopes this will lead to a lighter punishment for himself.
Unfortunately, a scandal involving phone s*x makes Rivi look even more guilty and worsens his situation. In the actual events, things happened quite similarly. After Ayala got arrested in 1993 for a bank job in Chicago, the police figured out that he was working for Blanco.

They convinced him to assist in their investigation. However, just like in the show, Ayala messed up by having inappropriate phone conversations with two secretaries from the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office.
Once this came to light, people started questioning his reliability as a witness. Jorge Ayala admitted to committing three murders and is now serving a life sentence in prison for 31 years.
