It seems that Shrek 2, will be re-released in theaters in 2024 in honor of its 20th anniversary having first dropped on July 2, 2024. The news was revealed by an unlikely source: the Canadian province Alberta’s government website, which includes a list of recently rated trailers, ads and PSAs.

Among the lineup is “Shrek 2-Re-Release (trailer #1).” As of yet, there’s no information on how or when to buy tickets. Whenever any other information related to Shrek 2 will be released we will share it with you.

DreamWorks Pictures released Shrek 2 in cinemas on May 19, 2004, after it had its world debut on May 15, 2004, at the Cannes Film Festival. The movie received very positive reviews and made $935.3 million in total revenue worldwide.

At the time of its debut, it was the biggest opening weekend for an animated movie and the second-largest three-day opening weekend in American history. Later on, it emerged as 2004’s highest-grossing movie. Shrek 2 was the highest-grossing animated movie ever made globally before Toy Story 3 from Pixar Animation Studios surpassed it in 2010.

It is also the highest-grossing picture from DreamWorks Pictures and DreamWorks Animation to date. Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song were the two categories in which the movie was nominated for Academy Awards, while the soundtrack of the movie peaked at number 10 on the US Billboard 200.
