Greater Sudbury Police said a post-mortem revealed that Sudbury politician Michael Vagnini died of “medical causes.” Some of the details will remain private in consultation with his family. No foul play was involved in the death of Michael Vagnini.
The police said:
“As a result of the investigation into the death of Michael Vagnini conducted by the Ontario Provincial Police in collaboration with the Greater Sudbury Police Service and the Coroner’s Office, foul play has been ruled out. A post-mortem was conducted on Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2024, confirming that his death was attributed to medical causes, the details of which will remain private in consultation with his family.”
They continued:
“We once again wish to extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Michael Vagnini, and we continue to ask that their privacy be respected during this difficult time, We also would like to extend our gratitude to the Ontario Provincial Police as well as the Atikameksheng Anishnawbek Police for their collaboration on this investigation.”

Michael Vagnini disappeared on January 27, 2024 and his body was discovered in the late afternoon on Feb. 13. His remains were located shortly before 2:30 p.m. at a seasonal camp on leased land of the Atikameksheng Anishnawbek.
