Laundrie’s parents described “the day everything hit the fan” in depositions made public on Monday, February 12, 2024. According to court transcripts made public, two days after he is thought to have murdered her at a campground outside of town, Brian Laundrie informed his parents many times that “Gabby’s gone” during a “very nervous and very scattered” phone conversation.

During a heated deposition of his own, Petito’s father referred to Laundrie as a “piece of s—” who was “raised by pieces of s—.” Before Petito, none of Laundrie’s parents could recall having a girlfriend. They did portray him as gregarious and having a large social circle.
They remembered their first contact with Petito and disclosed that they had been the subject of a criminal investigation related to the matter since the autumn of 2021. There were no charges against either parent.
As part of a continuing civil action, a Florida court released the testimony of Brian Laundrie’s parents on Monday, February 12, 2024, detailing what and when they knew about Gabby Petito’s death.
