Fox gained tens of thousands of followers in 2013 while using the handle “Bootymath.” In subsequent years, he dropped the alias and expanded into music, joining the Awful Records collective. In 2017, he became more well-known as he created and performed in Flying Lotus’ horror comedy film Kuso which was directed by the same person and designed the album artwork for Thundercat’s Drunk album.
Fox and hip-hop artist Kenny Beats collaborated on their debut single, “Square Up” which was released in October 2018. Fox made an appearance on “The Cave”, a YouTube series where Kenny Beats invites various musicians to perform freestyle in his studio, in April 2019.
“Jesus Is the One (I Got Depression),” which Kenny and Fox recorded for the episode, peaked at number one on Spotify’s U.S. viral list on July 8, 2019. The song’s popularity led the two to release an official version in June, even though they had never planned to release it commercially.
Record producer Flying Lotus hosts FlyLo FM, a fictitious radio station in Grand Theft Auto V, where his 2019 track “The Bean Kicked In” may be heard. Zack Fox’s first studio album, Shut the Fuck Up Talking to Me was released on October 15, 2021.
