Bob Edwards Legacy and Impact
Before, Bob Edwards went to the American University in Washington to study communications. In 1979, he got asked to be the host of NPR’s Morning Edition, which is a popular radio show.
The show had around 13 million people listening, making it the second most popular radio program in the country. After being the host for 24 years, Edwards decided to leave the channel. People praised his skills a lot.
He did more than 20,000 interviews while working with NPR. Listeners liked how he could talk about politics, news, and everyday life all together. Many people didn’t like it when he left NPR, and they sent lots of emails asking him to come back.
But leaving NPR led to good things for him. He got a deal with XM Satellite Radio, and his show there won awards like the Deems Taylor Awards and a Gabriel Award.
In 2018, Bob Edwards started hosting the podcast “Take On Today” for AARP, talking about things like health, work, and getting older. Besides his work on the radio, Edwards wrote many books during his life, like “Fridays with Red: A Radio Friendship.”
