In St. Louis, Missouri, Bush founded the Kingdom Embassy International Church in 2011. She served as a triage nurse and organizer during the 2014 Ferguson unrest, at which point she became political. She alleges that a police officer struck her.
Bush works with the King Center for Nonviolent Social Change as a Nonviolence 365 Ambassador. Bush stood for election to the US Senate in Missouri in 2016. She came in a distant second to Secretary of State Jason Kander in the Democratic primary. Republican Roy Blunt, the incumbent narrowly defeated Kander in the election.

She’s been married twice and has two kids. She was evicted due to loss of money when an illness during her second pregnancy forced her to stop her preschool work and she and her then-husband lived in their car with the small children for 14 months. It is not yet revealed when she divorced her first husband.
Bush wed Cortney Merritts, a security expert and former member of the US Army, in February 2023. Bush told the House Oversight and Reform Committee in May 2021 that during her first pregnancy, she informed her doctor of severe pain but was ignored and as a result, went into pre-term labor.
She blamed this on the “harsh and racist treatment” Black women endure throughout their pregnancies and deliveries. She then tweeted, “Every day, Black birthing people and our babies die because our doctors don’t believe our pain.”
