Where Will Molly Rotunda’s Funeral Services be Held?
Mary Elizabeth “Molly” Rotunda passed away on January 21, 2024 at the age of 20. A celebration of Molly’s life will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 27 at Christ United Methodist Church in Greensboro, NC. The family will receive visitors at a reception at the church following the ceremony.
A Look at the Legacy of Molly Rotunda
Molly made loving relationships with those she met through sports, the arts, school, faith communities, caregiving and family. She enjoyed creating charcuterie boards, painting, painting, shopping, listening to Eric Church, making pizzelles on the kitchen counter around the holidays, hanging out with her mom.
Her favorite summertime activities were hiking, swimming in rivers and telling stories over the campfire with her family, as well as excursions to Pennsylvania’s Hershey Park, where she rode roller coasters. Everyone who knew Molly was touched by her. She always placed others before herself and was gentle and unselfish, confident and powerful, wise beyond her years.
She was a true friend who kept her friendships strong and true with unwavering love and uncompromising support. She had several friendships that were decades long. Molly had most recently surrounded herself with a lovely group of UNC friends, who helped and supported her during her time in Chapel Hill.
She had a passion for helping people, especially kids and those in her neighborhood who most needed a friend. Molly found a way to relate to people who looked up to her, whether she was a youth leader, babysitter or swim coach.
She treated them like equals while still making them feel like they were someone special. Molly received an invitation to deliver the graduating speech at Sternberger Elementary shortly before she graduated from high school.
During her speech, Molly inspired her graduating fifth grade class to support one another as they transitioned to middle school, demonstrating her capacity to uplift and illuminate the path for others in her vicinity. Molly valued spending time with her family above anything else.
She cheered her siblings on during athletic events, weddings, and graduations with great enthusiasm. Molly was the youngest in the family and grew up at home with her parents after her siblings left for college.

A Look at the Life of Molly Rotunda
Terri and Joe Rotunda welcomed her into the world in Greensboro, North Carolina. Terri was the youngest of five siblings. With her arrival on December 17, 2003, “Team Rotunda” was completed. Her character, love, kindness, and giving attitude exemplified the greatest traits of her parents and siblings.
Molly was enrolled in the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill at the time of her death, where she was working toward a degree in family science and human development. She was pursuing her passion and calling in life, which was helping children and serving others, by learning what mattered most to her.
Molly went to Grimsley High School, Kiser Middle School and Sternberger Elementary School. She spent her whole life as a member of Christ United Methodist Church, where she led the youth group, sang in the choir and took part in yearly mission trips to South Carolina.
Participating in church musical plays was one of Molly’s greatest pleasures. She enjoyed performing in Noye’s Fludde, where she cheerfully sang “Mrs. Noye’s Gossip” with her mother in the role of “Mrs. Noye,” delighted by the audience.
She loved playing soccer and spent many years developing as a leader while participating on club, school and leisure teams. Growing up, Molly’s summers were spent at Green Valley Pool. She joined the swim squad at age five and went on to become a coach, instructing, guiding and encouraging a great number of young swimmers.
Molly was a Grimsley Whirlie with pride. Serving as a Madrigal, captain of the varsity soccer team, student ambassador, athlete, artist and member of the varsity swim team, she fully committed herself to her roles as an athlete, academic and student leader.
She co-founded the Welcome to the Whirlie Side group, which welcomed younger kids to the Grimsley community during the epidemic, as a way of continuing her enthusiasm for building community. Our condolences are with Molly Rotunda’s friends and family members.
