Christopher Roma’s loved ones are deeply saddened after hearing the news of his death. On Wednesday, January 17, 2024, the body of a seasoned hiker who had been reported missing while in the White Mountains of New Hampshire was discovered. In this post, you will read about his death in detail.
How Was Christopher Roma’s Dead Body Found?
Authorities said that they received a report of a Roma person in trouble close to Mount Bond in Lincoln on Tuesday, January 16, 2024. They added that after speaking with Roma on the phone, worried family members called 911.
Later, Roma himself called 911 as coordinates placed him between Mount Bond and Mount Guyot. Authorities reported that Roma said that he was very cold before to the conversation ending.
The first responders arrived early on Wednesday, January 17 morning and rescue operations got underway. New Hampshire Fish and Game said in a statement:
“The rescue effort was slowed as the responders had to trudge through waist-deep snow, and once the rescuers were exposed above tree line they faced heavy winds and blowing snow. Realizing progress would be slow, a call was made to New Hampshire Army National Guard to attempt a helicopter extraction of the hiker.”
Low clouds and poor visibility prevented the three different aircraft from the New Hampshire Army National Guard from getting close to Mount Guyot. A crew from Mountain Rescue Service team was able to reach Roma late Wednesday, Jan. 17, afternoon.
Roma’s dead body was ultimately found by a helicopter on Thursday, January 18, 2024, saving 15 conservation officers and over 30 volunteers who had reacted and were on the path from having a tough time clearing the area. The agency stated that snow and lows in the single digits were predicted for the region at that time.
